Certifiably Graduated
February 21, 2008 on 8:18 pm | In The Life of Paul |I got my summer semester results today. I now have a Graduate Certificate in Chartered Accounting Foundations in spite of Deakin University. That means I’m now qualified to start the Chartered Accountants Progam at some point in the future.
I have an extremely low opinion of the delivery of the Grad Cert course (so if you’re considering doing it… look into it thoroughly first and see if you think you can stomach what’s on offer). However, I got through with a distinction average. Yay for that.

Congrats! Ruth got a D for her corps law. Everyone’s getting closer to getting out of the Deakin system. Thats gotta be a good thing, lol.
Nah, Deakin is OK.

I wasn’t impressed with the quality of the delilvery of the units or the means of assessment. In terms of learning, assuming you can rote learn a couple of formulae, you’ll pass the finance module if they haven’t changed it since I did it. There wasn’t much in terms of corporate accounting content. I don’t think we even needed to know what a consolidation is. If I was in your shoes and looking to learn, I’d go back and pick up the two undergrad subjects that I missed part-time on-campus. That said, if they’ll give you exemptions for all of the units you don’t need to do (because trust me - you don’t want to), then it might be the easiest way for you to tick the boxes you need to get into CA. It also might not. It’s your choice in the end. If I had my time over, I would have pushed harder to get some exemptions. They’re not likely to offer them to anyone easily when they can charge $2k+ to post out another pile of paper to study and feed one more exam paper through the auto-marking machine.
